How much space do I need for a golf simulator?

Accepted Answer

Aim for a ceiling of 2.8m or higher, at least 3.5m of width and 5 to 6m of depth. That depth breaks down as 0.3m from the wall to the enclosure, 3m from screen to ball and a 2m safety zone behind you. Plenty of our customers have built in less, it usually just means irons only or hitting slightly off centre.

What ceiling height do I need to swing a driver?

Accepted Answer

2.9m and above is the safe zone for full driver use. At 2.7m to 2.9m most players are fine with irons, and driver depends on your height and swing. Between 2.6m and 2.7m a custom build works but taller golfers start clipping the top. Under 2.6m it is short irons and practice only, so talk to us before buying anything.

How far should the hitting mat be from the screen?

Accepted Answer

Around 3m from screen to ball is ideal for most home setups. 3.5m is even better, since the extra ball flight helps some launch monitors read more accurately. 2.5m is the practical minimum and you need to watch the enclosure frame in your follow through.

Can I put a golf simulator in my garage or shed?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely, garages and sheds are two of the most common spots we build in. The things that catch people out are the garage door track and roller motor eating into your ceiling height, width for your follow through, and lighting and ventilation. Measure the clear height under the track, not to the ceiling, and send us a photo if you are unsure.

Does the room need to be blacked out?

Accepted Answer

It helps, but it is not essential. Projectors look their best in the dark, and some camera based launch monitors get misreads in strong natural light. Blockout curtains, zoned downlights and a spotlight on the ball will get you most of the way there. You still want good light on the ball itself, just not sunlight streaming across the hitting area.

Can left and right handers use the same setup?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Most simulator software lets you move the tee position, so both can hit from the same bay. The limit is room width, since a lefty and a righty each need follow through clearance on opposite sides. 3.5m works if you are happy hitting a little off centre, and 4.5m lets both play centrally without thinking about the wall.

Will my room actually work? Can you check for me?

Send us your width, height and depth, plus any obstructions like garage door tracks, roller motors, beams or lights. We will tell you whether an out of the box RooBox will fit or whether you need a custom build, before you spend a cent. Photos help more than you would think, since half the time a photo shows us something the tape measure missed.

How is the enclosure so cheap?

We do not run the huge mark ups other brands do. Our whole reason for starting was making golf at home affordable for the everyday Aussie, so we keep our margins tight and pass the difference on. On top of that, you can source the pipe locally or add our framing kit, and there is no showroom or middleman built into the price. The screen, foam padding and fittings are the same commercial grade gear used in setups costing far more.

How easy is it to set up the enclosure?

Accepted Answer

Most people have it standing in an afternoon with one helper. The fittings slide straight onto the pipe, the canopy and screen attach with bungees, and there is no welding or special tooling. Every order comes with an assembly guide, cutting guide and assembly video. One thing to plan for: you need about 150mm of clearance on height and width to stand the frame up and rotate it into place.

How long will the enclosure and impact screen last?

Years of regular hitting. The canopy is heavy duty oxford polyester, the fittings are powder coated steel, and the impact screen is a commercial grade material built to take repeated driver strikes. Screens are the wear item in any simulator, so we stock replacements. Tensioning your screen flat but not drum tight is the single best thing you can do for its lifespan.

Can I get a custom sized enclosure?

Yes. We build custom enclosures, custom impact screens and cut to size turf to your measurements, whether that is a wider bay, a lower ceiling or a fixed frame built into a shed or games room. Send through your room dimensions and we will come back with a quote. Custom and made to order items take longer to produce and cannot be returned for change of mind.

Which launch monitor should I buy?

Start with your room, not the monitor. Side mounted units are the most flexible, since if the sim fits they fit. Rear mounted units usually need at least 2.5m behind the ball. Overhead units have to mount at a specific height, and we have redirected plenty of customers to floor units after checking their ceiling.

Do I need a 4K projector?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily, and the answer depends more on your PC than the projector. Driving 4K golf software properly needs a serious graphics card, so a 4K projector on an underpowered PC looks worse than a good HD setup. What matters more is a short throw ratio, brightness and low input lag.

Do I need a special PC, and what software does it run?

Course play needs a Windows PC capable of running software like GSPro, E6 Connect or Awesome Golf. Some launch monitors handle range practice from a phone or tablet, but full simulation is a different workload. We build and test simulator PCs specifically for golf software, so you are not guessing at specs or buying a gaming rig that falls over mid round.

Is a golf simulator safe? What about bounce back?

Accepted Answer

A properly built sim is safe, and that comes down to three things: screen tension, foam padding and distance. A screen tensioned flat but not tight absorbs the ball rather than firing it back, foam padding seals the border so shanks cannot escape, and standing around 3m back gives the ball room to slow down. Side netting adds another layer for the wayward ones.

How much does a golf simulator cost in Australia?

Most of the cost sits in the launch monitor, not the enclosure. A DIY build pairing a RooBox with a mat, screen and an entry level launch monitor is the cheapest genuine way into simulator golf, while premium camera units and full custom fit outs sit at the top end. When will my order be delivered?

Accepted Answer

Most in stock orders dispatch within 1 to 2 business days. Metro deliveries usually land in 2 to 5 business days and regional or remote areas in 5 to 10. Orders can ship from more than one warehouse, so items sometimes arrive separately, and you get tracking for each shipment. Custom and made to order items take longer, products which take longer than specified above will have their timeframe on the product page.

Do you ship Australia wide?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we ship right across Australia, metro and regional, using Australia Post and selected couriers depending on the size of the order. Larger items like enclosures and screens travel by freight. We currently only ship within Australia, so we cannot send overseas. If you are somewhere remote, get in touch before ordering and we will confirm freight for your postcode.

Question 19

What is your refund policy?

Accepted Answer

You have 30 days to change your mind on eligible Australian orders. Items must be unused, in original condition and packaging, and launch monitors must be unopened. Custom and made to order products are excluded from change of mind returns. If something turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is a different situation, and your rights under the Australian Consumer Law always apply.

What warranty do I get?

Accepted Answer

Everything we sell carries the manufacturer warranty, and on top of that you have consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded. Warranty periods vary by product and brand, so check the product page or our warranty and consumer guarantees page. If something goes wrong, contact us first rather than the manufacturer and we will handle it.

Question 21

Do you help with the build, or am I on my own?

You are not on your own. Buy your sim gear through us and we will do free frame drawings and 3D models for custom builds, plus build advice from people who do this daily. If you would rather not pick up a drill, we work with a tradesman who can build fixed enclosures on site, subject to availability. Send your dimensions through and we will tell you straight which route suits.

Do you hire out simulators for events?

We do. We run mobile golf simulator hire for corporate events, trade expos, golf days and parties, with setup and pack down handled by us. Send through the venue, the date and the ceiling height on site and we will confirm what fits and what it costs.

Can an enclosure double up as a home theatre?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely, and plenty of our customers set it up that way. The impact screen takes a projected image nicely and the enclosure blocks side light, so the same gear runs movies, the footy and gaming on a screen far bigger than any TV in the house. Add a decent projector and speakers and the room earns its keep even when nobody is hitting balls.

How can I convince the Mrs I need this?

Do the maths out loud. A round with a cart, a bucket at the range and a beer afterwards adds up quickly, and a sim pays for itself over a season or two of not disappearing every Saturday. Then mention the home theatre, the kids getting into golf and the fact that you are home more, not less. Works more often than you would think.
